My new quest....

Well, now I'm at home with my new babe, I find I really want to keep a clean and tidy home for him. I've always wanted a clean and tidy home, but as I worked , I excused myself from a lot of housekeeping duties and really only did the bare minimum so it looked decent *the shame!*. I'm a hoarder too, so clutter is a big issue.

I must admit, I loathe housework, and would happily pay for someone to do it for me - which I recently tried but didn't work out (more on that). See, I like cleaning well, having things and places shiny, but I just do not have the time nor the patience to do this regularly and maintain it. I do a corner of a room here and there but I'm not maintaining, so the cycle starts over again and again. Having so much in a small space with little in the way of storage space does not help. Nesting whilst pregnant didn't help much - I cleaned but didn't declutter, so again, we were back to square one. My flat is generally clean, but very untidy.

So, how am I to rectify this? I've tried for so long, and it's become a running joke even from my darling hubby. I'll clean and tidy up and say, ''this is it, we're keeping it clean and tidy from now on''. His response? ''Well, we'll go back to normal soon, we just cannot do it....'' And true to form, we do. And I hate it that I cannot keep a clean and tidy home! And it's mostly due to clutter. So, imagine me finding FlyLady recently! Finally, I think I can get my home looking spick and span. I'm done living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome).  I'm getting started with the Beginner BabySteps.  I'm going to do this progressively and will get my home in shape! I just wish I found it before Laurence arrived, it would have been so much easier... I think. But even with Laurence, I know I can do it. It's all about getting into habits and routines. Anyway, I'm willing to try, so off I go, time to shine my sink! Yes, this is my BabyStep homework for today. Thing is, once that sink is shiny, it needs to stay shiny. Always. I think I can make a habit of shining my sink. Well, I'll try. It'll be a challenge, I know, but I will try. And I really will work on getting hubby on board, because this time, we are not 'going back to normal'. We are changing normal. Normal will involve a shiny sink and all the good clean, tidy housekeeping habits I pick up with FlyLady.

Now, can I get a good, reliable house help for this? I had one in November/December and well, she mopped the floor really well. Unfortunately, it's all she could do well. This girl seemed unable/unwilling to clean! I'd have her cleaning the dishes and putting them away but we'd find she'd put away dirty pots and pans like it was normal. glasses/mugs always seemed dirty too... I wondered about her cleaning skills and was even willing to teach her. Unfortunately, this proved difficult as she seemed not to understand what I told her, English was foreign to her. So I had to let her go.

I've still not found another, but I think I can do without. We'll see. One thing's for sure, next time I get help, he/she will have to be able to communicate in English or Swahili or Luo. Asking someone to use a sponge and running water to clean without language is tough! I even demonstrated what I meant, she seemed to get it, but well, turns out she did not. Oh well, perhaps better luck next time.

So FlyLady, here I come!

Wish me luck peeps!
