And I will be!
Oh, how a baby changes things! Before Laurence (Lawi) came to us, I planned to go back to work in September of this year, continue pursuing my career, and be one of those mums who 'did it all'. Well, now he's here, all I see me doing till he's grown is being a mum to him. The thought of leaving him in the care of someone else while I carry on working as before feels me with dread. But I have to work, bring in an income at the moment, as we cannot afford to live on just Al's earnings.
I know September is a good 8.5 months away, but it seems so close to me! Hence I've started thinking of ways in which I can bring in an income whilst being a full time mum to my son. I have ideas, but how do I put them into action? I've never really managed a business before!
Well, I did a little research and opened up a whole world full of WAHMs who do a whole range of jobs, mainly self employed at home whilst they look after their babies. They call themselves Mumpreneurs (I've also come across Mompreneurs, from across the pond too). Now, I know the term mumpreneur has caused some controversy out there and there are people who cannot stand the term. Love it or hate it, it's what I want to be! And I've found a network of online communities to help me on this quest.
It all started on good old Twitter. I found and started following a number of mothers with their own successful businesses, trying to glean some ideas off them. That led me into subscribing to a free online course run by Antonia Chitty and Erica Douglas, Become a Mumpreneur, (aff) but I decided to take things even further and signed up to their newly launched course which allows me access to a private member's area and a whole host of earning opportunities. I'm so inspired right now, I just have a feeling this will work out. And come September, I hope I'll be able to make a confident decision about going back to work... or not, so again peeps, wish me luck!

That's the same sort of motivation that got me started 9 years ago jac! Good to have you on board.
ReplyDeleteThanks Antonia, so glad I found you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jac, Just wanted to say good luck on the course! Working with Antonia will only bring good things :-)

ReplyDeleteGood luck Jacquie I'm rooting for you! Let me know how you go. Maybe we should do a theme on it in our group! I bet there are a number of us who feel like you.

Thanks Em, yes! I'm sure many new mums feel the same but just don't know where to start so stick to what they know? Well, thankfully the support's there, so it's really up to me now, huh?
