So, I had my growth scan last Friday, all is well, little man weighs approximately 5lbs 1oz (!!!). I was also scheduled to see the docs for a discussion about my birth choice.
Now, throughout this pregnancy, I've been in the high risk category, mainly due to having had an open myomectomy 3 years ago to remove a number of fibroids. I'm also on aspirin for a raised thromboelastogram which [possibly] caused us 4 miscarriages in the past. I've made my wishes clear from the beginning that I'd really like to try for a vaginal birth, although the docs suggested right after my op that all births would be by elective caesarean section - never been happy with this, so of course I did my homework and got more and more confident as I found more and more info supporting the fact I can do this naturally.
All through, I've been under consultant led care, yet things have been so straightforward I've only seen a consultant once who did say I could go natural as long as my uterine cavity was not breached (it was not), and that yes, I could be eligible to birth at the birthing centre. Of course he couldn't say for sure as my hospital notes were never available for clinic.
Well, on Friday, I saw the Professor herself (Lesley Regan). My notes turned up at my last appointment but I was seen by a junior doc who couldn't make the decision (grrrr!!!), but entered the fact my uterine cavity was never breached on my patient hand held notes. The consultation was fab. Not only can I have a vaginal birth, I can have it at the BC! I originally really wanted a home birth but circumstances above made me a little anxious. A BC will do this time.
I'm just so glad it is possible and they are letting me do it! It's taken 25 weeks since I first made my wishes known, and I'm so thankful it can be done. Now all I need to do is to book hypnobirthing classes for me and DH so we're both well prepped for his calm arrival to the world (yup, it'll be calm, whatever happens!). Appointment to see BC will be in the post hopefully within the next week as referral was only done on Friday, but I am just so very happy and even more positive that I can do this just as nature intended; like my grandma and women before her generation did. All my follow-up appointments at the hossy will now be held at the BC, so I'll hopefully get to know the MWs better too.
Oh, and one final thing... BabyJac is positioned perfectly! What I thought was his head in breech is in fact his bum, LOL! Meaning he's been head down for a good 5 weeks now, probably more. I hope he stays that way....
Bright blessings xxxxx
