Okay, it's been a whole of 12 weeks since my last journal entry. Honestly, I've just been too busy and tired, so I waited till I'm on leave which I started yesterday - yay!
Things have been well. Things are perfect, and all is as expected. Awe, fatigue, shortness of breath, more awe... it's all good! BabyboyJac is just perfect - moving a lot, practising his breathing which results in hiccups which are happening at least 4x/day, his kicks are getting stronger and I feel tugging when he squirms and stretches, and he bounces a lot late into the evening and first thing in the morning - all very good, and I'm loving it all irrespective of the discomfort I might be experiencing! Plus (like you've not worked it out), we're now on the home stretch with single numbers! Just over 7 weeks to go! How amazing!
I'm prepared for him - mentally, emotionally, physically. I've been ready for a long, long time! What is not ready is the material stuff, but to me, it's not an issue. Babies really don't need half as much as people buy. That's just my opinion now and it might change in time, though I doubt this. I have nappies (reusable, pre-loved cotton from birth to potty), I have a towel, I have a blanket and a shawl, and I'm attempting to crochet another shawl. I have a few vests, hats, baby grows and outfits/suits, cardigans and I have socks. I have a sling. I also have breasts from which he can feed. Shelter, clothing, warmth, food, security and LOVE - these are all a baby really needs at the beginning, though of course for convenience in the 21st century, many can't fathom this - my friends think I'm crazy for not feeling the urgency to buy things. I guess once frugal, always a frugal. All I have bought to date is pre-loved too. I make no apologies to this fact.
Having said that, my friends have blessed me with stuff... a Moses basket for which I need to buy a mattress and linen for, a buggy which another pal never used due to it's bulk, and with them all organising a baby shower in 8 days, I feel it's wise to wait till after then before shopping. I also still need to buy a suitable cot but no hurry whilst the baby still fits into the Moses basket. Perhaps I'll buy one anyway but I do not feel the urgency to do so before he's here.
So in the next few weeks, the biggest job I have to do really is to clear out things we do not need to make room for things we'll need. I still need storage for his stuff. A nice chest of drawers or a baby wardrobe. A chest of drawers will do for me though - I'll shop around and keep a keen eye out on freecycle, see what's most suitable.
And that's where we're at! Oh, and I'm convinced I'm experiencing Braxton Hicks, finally. It's all good, if they are practice for what is to come, then I can only hope the real thing is only 2-3 times as uncomfortable as the Hicks. I can manage to breathe through them and stay relaxed, but still need the practice and more hypnobirthing tips. All to do in 7 or so weeks. I believe I can do it. I'm so ready!!!
Till next time, stay brightly blessed!
